On insurance work
Making an insurance claim on your roof is stressful at the best of times. You're dealing with damage you didn't expect, an insurer who needs paperwork before they'll authorise anything, and a property that probably needs to be made safe quickly. We handle insurance work regularly, and the goal is simple: make the process as easy as possible for you.
What we handle
- Storm damage: missing tiles, ripped-off lead, slipped slates, blown-down chimney stacks, damaged guttering and downpipes
- Fire damage: roof rebuilding after fire, smoke and water damage restoration, full re-covers where the existing roof can't be saved
- Accidental damage: trees falling on roofs, scaffold accidents, impact damage
- Subsidence-related damage: where movement has caused roof failure as a secondary effect
Working directly with your insurer
For most insurance claims, we can deal with your insurer or their loss adjuster directly. We provide:
- Detailed quotes broken down by item, in the format insurers expect
- Photographs of the damage, with annotations where useful
- Written reports describing the cause and extent of the damage
- Any supplementary information the insurer or adjuster requests
If you'd rather handle the insurer communication yourself and just have us provide the quote, that's fine too - we'll give you everything you need in writing.
Making the property safe first
After storm or impact damage, the first priority is usually making the property safe and watertight - temporarily tarping a damaged roof to keep water out, or removing loose materials that might cause further damage. We can come out for emergency make-safe work and then handle the full repair once the insurance process is underway.
Loss adjuster meetings
If your insurer sends a loss adjuster to assess the damage, we're happy to meet them on site. Adjusters appreciate dealing with a roofer who can speak their language and provide the documentation they need - it usually speeds claims along significantly.
Cash settlements vs insurer-managed repairs
Some insurance claims pay out as a cash settlement, leaving you to arrange the work yourself. Others are managed end-to-end by the insurer's nominated contractors. If you've been given a cash settlement, we can quote and carry out the work directly. If your insurer is using their own contractor panel and you'd prefer us, you can usually request a different contractor - we can help you make the case.
What we won't do
We won't inflate quotes to take advantage of insurance claims. The price we quote is the price the work costs. We've heard stories about roofers padding insurance jobs because "the insurer's paying anyway" - that's not how we work. The quote you get is the same quote you'd get if you were paying out of pocket.
Guarantee
All insurance work comes with the same 10-year workmanship guarantee as our other jobs. You get proper documentation at the end of the work, including certificates and warranties for any materials covered separately by manufacturer guarantees.
